PROJECTS

We will start with a pilot project located in Mahavilachchiya, a village situated 40 klm from its nearest urban center at Anuradhapura. Don't let the isolation of this village misguide you. With the truly pioneering efforts of two brothers from this village, and assisted by several foreign and local benefactors, Mahavilachchiya today, under the patronage of Horizon Lanka Foundation, is a center is a center for youth training in English language and computing skills, with dedicated broadband internet connectivity via a satellite antenna. As a result, Mahavilachchiya has the highest per capita computer ownership of any village in the country.

FARO, along with two of its associate partners, DDD of Cambodia and ICTA of Sri Lanka, have initiated the intensive training of two youth from this village at overseas locations in Laos and India where such outsourcing work is currently been done for US clients.

These two candidates are undergoing a three month training program, from project management to learning the basic skills required for operating an outsourcing unit. Upon their return, and working together with our partners on the project, we will actively assist them to set up a real time outsourcing pilot unit at Mahavilachchiya.

Our assistance for the pilot site, and for each subsequent site we add, will be comprehensive, extending from IT infra structure support, continuing training, business structuring, start up funding and in finding outsourcing work.

FARO's sponsorship of each project/site will cease after a defined period, allowing for independence and self sufficiency of each group.
